Dear Gentlemen

I am just now favourd
with yours of yesterday, and have I imagine
received regularly all your letter in course of
Post- I have made no report of Mr. Bethunes
Case since Sunday, nothing but what is very
favourable having occured since and my own
time at present very much circumscribd-
Since Sundays report Mr. Bethunes disease seems
evidently to be losing ground every hour- The Electuary
& Cream of Tartar operate to a wish, the half grain
of Squills with Nutmeg (still without the Pil: Hydrar:
not yet having got it from Edinburgh) gripe him in
the morning. Cough & Laborious breathing no
almost gone. Œdematous swelling of the Limbs
even at Bedtime greatly diminished. Urine
much increased. Lateritious sediment greatly

[Page 2]

lessen'd sometimes none at all, not the
least Drought- Appetite much better. Healthy
Countinance returning as also his Strength and
Spirits- Upon the whole Ive seldom ↑if ever↑ seen in
a similar Case such a sudden change to the
better when the most alarming Symptoms
were so prevalent- I am with real Esteem

Your very Humble & Obedient Servant
John Goodsir

should have said I have regularly answerd
all your Letters except the duplicate I received
on Sunday last--

J.G.
