Copy of Mr. Rudds own Case drawn up by himself for
Doctor Cullen's opinion

Mr. Rudd has been afflicted for two years with an uneasiness in his Bow¬
els
which gives him the sensation which a Man has, when He has
taken Physick that does not work

He has generally a little qualmish Sickness, but without pain
in his Stomach, and a tendency to be purg'd.

He has seldome more than two stools ↑in↑ a day, which are always
loose, but don't remove the uneasiness in his Bowels

His disorder has been call'd bilious, but he has no other Symp¬
toms of a bilious complaint than a yellowness in his face & hands
which does not constantly remain there, but comes and goes
as the disorder in his Bowels is better or worse

He never has a tendency to vomit; has a constant weari¬
ness in his
limbs, and cannot walk upstairs or up hill without
being out of breath
---

He sleeps tolerably well in general, but every Exertion
either of Mind or Body will break his sleep, as his Nerves
are particularly irritable --

His Appetite is farr from bad --- but He is subject
to indigestion -- is frequently hot in the Night and has
a disagreable clamminess in his mouth which He attributes to
Phlegm discharg'd from the Glands of his Throat -- is subject
to Headacks ------

Mr. Rudd is 52 years of age, has liv'd a sedentary and
studious life -- is moderate in eating and drinking

[Page 2]

but has never taken sufficient exercise --

Gentle riding agrees with him best --- Walking heats
and fatigues too much --- All purging medicines increase
the disorder in his Bowels, and make him extreamly uneasy --

All red Wines disagree with his Bowels -- He is
obligd to drink Sherry, Madeira or small rum and Water
in all which He is very moderate

He drinks small Beer well brew'd, at his Meals
