Letter from C. Robertsone, concerning the case of Archibald Stevenson, minister at St Madoes. Mr Stevenson suffers from a skin complaint which has spread over the whole body. In a postscript, Robertsone observes "that a distress, very like to Mr. Stevensons which the country people call a Blistered Rose, has been somewhat frequent in the Carse of Gowrie”.2 September 1784

Letter from C. Robertsone, concerning the case of the Reverend Mr Stevenson. Robertsone reports on the condition of Mr Stevenson's skin complaint. The discharge, which was 'very great from the surface of the whole skin' is now beginning to dry.12 September 1784

Reply, for 'Revd. Mr Stevenson'. Cullen is glad to find Mr Stevenson in a better way. He advises continuing the glyster and, on the condition Mr Stevenson's pulse falls below eighty, to begin a weak decoction of guaiacum and sarsaparilla. Cullen includes a recipe for a specific liniment.14 September 1784

Letter from C. Robertstone, concerning the case of Rev. Mr. Stevenson. Robertsone reports Mr Stevenson's inability to use a particular ointment, as 'the smallest things of Mercury externally has had the effect to inflame his body'. Robertsone also writes: "Ledger & Index are safe in J. Stewarts room in Edinr. the lowness of his finances caused him to leave the town so abruptly". Cullen's previous letter makes no mention of this.26 October 1784

Reply, for 'Revd. Mr. Stevenson'. Cullen insists upon the application of the citrinum to treat Mr Stevenson's skin complaint, which he diagnoses as a 'Lepra Icthyosis'. Cullen suggests Robertsone consult Francois Boissier de Sauvage's 'Nosologia Methodica' (1763).27 October 1784

Letter from Archibald Stevenson to Colin Robertsone, concerning the case of Archibald's father, the Reverend Mr Stevenson. Mr Stevenson had been weakened by a flux, which abated with the combined use of laudanum and powders (identified in letter 2538). Mr Stevenson's skin complaints continue. He has left off the use of the citrinum as it is believed the mercury entered his blood and caused the flux. The sublimate ointment, however, yielded better effects.9 November 1784

Letter from Colin Robertsone, concerning the case of the Reverend Mr Stevenson. Mr Stevenson's symptoms now include: looseness, diminishing strength, loss of appetite, and a pulse quickening to 100. His skin complaints continue. Robertsone believes the citrinum had a good effect and 'bids fair to dry the skin'. Letter 2539 was originally enclosed with this letter.10 November 1784

Reply, for 'Revd. Mr. Stevenson'. Cullen suspects the citrinum has been used too liberally, which accounts for the diarrhoea and the soreness of Mr Stevenson's mouth. Cullen advises on the management of the above symptoms and on the application of the ointment to treat Mrs Stevenson's skin disorder.11 November 1784
