Sir,

Your letter of advice concerning Mr. Stevenson
has been carefully attended to: for the first six days
we could discover little abatement of the symptoms;
The discharge very great from the surface of the whole
body; ↑but now much less↑ the last part it seems to have attacked is the
face, there it also is drying. He has had a pretty
free perspiration. From the soreness & itching of his
skin he has been mostly confined to bed since I wrote
last. his urine has been of a good colour all
along & for most part has deposited a sediment.
The laxative medicines he was obliged to discontinue
not being able to bear the motion & fatigue
attending their operation; he has every day
had an injection. Pulse as before. Tongue
moist & clean. His rest in the night has been
very bad
notwithstanding of his having got an
opiate at bedtime; however, he found, after trying
to do without it ↑for a few hours↑ some nights, that it had the good
effect to make him much easier for the remainder
[o]f the night & in the mornings procured some sleep.

[Page 2]

We have continued to dress, I may say, the whole sur¬
face of his body almost at the same time with
a cerate mode of oil, spermaceti & white wax &, to
such parts as were moister than the rest, scraped
lint. Last night, for the first time since his illness,
he had pretty good sleep, & seemed refreshed
when I saw him this forenoon.

His brother Mr. James Stevenson joins me in
very respectful compliments I ever am,

with great esteem,
Sir,
Your Most Obedient Servant
C. Robertsone.
