For Miss Dunlop.
Take one ounce of Sarsaparilla Root. In an emergency, let fourteen papers be made. Label: Materials for Decoction Number one.
Take one drachm of the Bark of Mezereon root, a drachm and a half of grated sassafras, and one ounce of grated liquorice Root. Mix. In an emergency, let fourteen papers be made. Label: Materials etc. Number two.
Take half a drachm of the Bark of Mezereon root. In an emergency, let fourteen papers be made. Label: Materials etc. Number three. Let the Pharmacist carefully undertake that the bark of the Mezereon root alone without wood be added and that it be fresh and intensely bitter.
Take one of the papers of the parcel № 1. put in (t) into a Scotch pint
of water. Set it over the fire, & boild it till one mutckin is boiled away.
then put in one of the № 2. & boil the whole, till a chopin. Then strain
it thro a pretty close table napkin. Put in a bottle & set it by in a
cool place. Of this you must take at first every day a mutckin divided
into small draughts at such intervals as to avoid the time of meals. If it
agree with your stomach, may increase by degrees till a chopin every day.
If it prove too warm on the Stomach you must continue to prepare
it of the parcels of № 1. & 2. but if no uneasy warmth &c You should
add to every paper of № 2. one of № 3. & if that does make it not
too warm you may add 2 papers to every paper of № 2 one of №. 3.
2 papers of № 3. to every bottle of Decoction.
