Mr. Wm. Murray
Dear Sir

I have seen Mr. Murray again today and
have again examined the tumour on his side. I have
the same opinion of it I had before and think
it will be a difficult matter, but we must
not decline making some attempts to relieve
him.

Please let him have the Oil & Plaister
I advised in my last, and let him begin to
take internally the Cicuta. I prefer this in
properly dried powder to the Extract, but the
Powder
may be made into pills with Ex¬
tract of Liquorice
, each containing two, or
at most three grains of the Powder
. He
may begin with a small dose, but may
be increased pretty fast till it has sensible
effects, and for the management of this
I need not offer you any directions.

[Page 2]

As he is liable to costiveness I would
have this always prevented from going too far
and for this purpose Please give him the
following Pill

Take 1½ drachms of Aloetic Pill dough, 15 grains of Calomel and sufficient Simple Syrup to make a mass to be divided into pills of 5 grains each. Label: Laxative Pills one or two to be taken for a dose at bed time so often as occasion requires.

In case of fits of bloody urine let him
have the following Powder

Take {illeg} ounces of ground Gum Arab, 2 drachms of White Sugar and a ½ drachm of ground Salts of Nitre. Mix to make a powder. Label: Cooling Powder a tea spoonfu[l] a day when the urine is uneasy.

I find that he is to be frequently in town
and therefore I shall get accounts of his sta[te]
from himself, but if you have information or opinio[n]
to give I shall hear from you I am sir your most
obedient servant
