For J. Murray of Broughton Esquire
Your Strength, exercise & temperance presume
[Page 2]
that your blood is clean but foulness will occur without
any evident cause & the eruption on your arm with
the running of your ears must make me think that
your blood is not so perfectly sound. But so slightly
that there is no foundation for any alarm.
I have prescribed two [medicines?] upon the use of
the first enter immediately viz. Diaphoretic drops.
40 every night at bed time & 20 every morning, in a little
water. I expect that such small doses will neither
nauseate nor puke but you should increase the
doses by 5 drops at a time till you are affected with
a little squeamishness & at this dose continue for two
or three weeks; but then intermit for a week &
again return to them for a fortnight. alternating
thus for the months of January & February.
About begining of March or sooner if threatened
with eruption or uneasiness in your ears you are
to begin the use of the other medicines. The Cooling
salts. 2 table spoonfuls mixed with half a much¬
kin or a little more of new drawn cow milk whey
& take this at two draughts in the morning about
an hour before breakfast & continue this for all
the month of March. It should keep you open
without purging & if it do either more or less, that is
if it does not move you at all or moves you more than
once, increase or diminish the dose.
Your present regimen is perfectly good. Be
very sparing in fish, abstaining entirely from the heavier
kinds as Salmon, hering & dressed shellfish. Bacon,
Pork, & salted or high seasoned foods should also be a¬
voided.
Take one and a half ounces of Vinum antimonii and two drachms of aromatic Tincture. Mix. Label: Diaphoretic drops.
Take two ounces of Tartar Solubil, one ounce of Glauber's Salts, half an ounce of Spanish polychrest, eight ounces of spring water and four ounces of simple cinnamon. Dissolve and strain. Label: Aperient Solution
