To Dr Hamilton Concerning Miss Craik

Complaints Phthisical; but proceeding slowly - Complaint
of her Teeth bad, may ↑have↑ affected her Tongue; but totally
unconnected with her breast Complaint. ---

Let her Diet be with as little Animal meat as possible
Rather Milk Farinacea and fruit - I have learned her to
digest milk &c.

Stay great stress on fresh air & Exercise - She is to length
on her journey home & She should after that set out on
a Journey for some weeks or on a sea Voyage -- And either
on her Journey or a Voyage I could trouble her with no Medicines
but the Acid Mixture -- But upon her return let a Pea Issue in
her
arm or a Perpetual one in her Neck. -- & let her begin the
Decoction below - in the proportion of half a Dram ↑of the Mezer to the bottle
but increase it to two Drams if she can bear it &cccccc.
but if it heats her you must lay it aside & give her the
Tussilago in double quantity -- As to Mercurials: or Myrrh. I
have no Faith in them &c.

Take half an ounce of dried Coltsfoot's leaves. Cook in two pounds of spring water until it becomes one pound. When it becomes half a pound, add half a drachm of Mezereon root and in the end one drachm of Licorice. Strain and label as Pectoral Decoction, one or two spoonful to be taken often during the day; increase to one pound during the day.
