Mr J. Jack for Miss Hamilton.

I am sorry to hear of Miss Hamilton’s
distress. I know her delicacy but even on that account
I think it very improper to let her looseness go
on & if it threaten so, her aversion to Medicine
must be overcome. A little Rhubarb at times
may be very proper, but I should be glad if
she could also take a gentle vomit of Ipeca¬
cuahna
- must exceed 10 gr. but better if 5 would
do. After taking either Vomit or Laxative I

[Page 2]

would have her take a dose of L. L. from 20
to 30 g.tt as you may think &c. from her or your
experience. It is my opinion that it may
be necessary to repeat the Anodyne but I think
that upon receipt of this you should go to¬
morrow afternoon to Murdieston & if you
do not find things much better, give the Vomit &
the Anodyne. After it & by staying all night
report to me by Monday’s post & be as
full & circumstancial as possible. If the looseness
be abated & it appear only as a laxity of
the bowels without griping or feverishness give
the Infusion below.
