Account of Mrs. Maxwell of Kirk¬
connell's Complaints Down to tuesday's morn¬
ing the 17th was transmitted by that days Post
On tuesday about noon she took advantage of a
Respite from her ordinary pains and acuturied to Get
out of bed --- She was able to sit up about an hour
and did not suffer any sensible bad consequences from
it her Pulse when up was between 78 and 80
her ordinary pains recurring made her go to bed at this
time when a strong perspiration or rather sweat
Broke out, which however did not continue and was
not so profuse as she had apprehended it would be
from certain sensations of Erysipelas heat (↑Eri↑)
Erysipelatous heat and of sparking below the skin over
many parts of her body -- The pulse gradually
rose and quickened to 88 or 90 -- By this time
taken a bit of Chicken for dinner -- it was not long
after dinner till the pulse had fallen to 70 or under
Took no Supper. Slept putting several broken
sleeps together perhaps three hours.
Want of rest, and sweating had Exhausted her a

in the morning of Wednesday, yet before ten O'clock her
pulse was become natural and She enjoyed Ease so much
that she became disposed to Sleep and indulged in one for
an hour or thereby
Altho not more pained to day than yesterday nor any
ways sicker She did not chose to rise out of bed principal¬
ly because this day was more cold than some of the precee¬
ding, and she Judged it would have risked checking An
eruption which had appeared on the region above the stomach.
She had complained for several days, amongst other
pains which wandered thro her arms and Shoulders, of a
pain rather more fixed and constant in the lower part
of the breast-bone affecting the neck the teeth and throat
and had been cause of increased uneasiness in the stomach
a number of red spotts were now observed upon the skin
in this part, and since the Eruptions, the pain (a burning
Sensation thereabout, and the working in the stomach had
all Diminished.
Spotts Similar to these had often been observed and Still
continue to Break out one here and there especially on her arms
the same sort of smarting pain and heat allways preceed those
coming out which then afterwards Diminishes

they soon disappear at least their redness, and many of
them grow brown leaving a mark like freckles.
The inflammation from the Erysipelas on the left
arm grow less and Less -- but both arms swell with
the pains that travel thro them and the fingers
the pulse counted to Day on Different occasions betwixt
noon and nights was never above 78 commonly 70
Thursday -- last night the heat and prickling was uncommonly
uneasy in as much that the{illeg} whole surface of the body felt
as at the eruption of the Erysipelas, thirst was also Greater,
however she fell into a sleep which proved more quiet
and sound than was expectd. When she awaked the skin
allover had a moisture upon it; some red spotts continued
to come and go upon the arms; they are thicker
motled with their marks than any time before.
This morning the pulse was fuller about 68 in the minute
Selpt had slept well the greatest part of the night
about midday began to find her head teeth and throat
uneasy which have continued so sweat but little

fryday. Last night the uneasiness in head &c
still continued but Did not prevent her from
Getting a good deal of sleep the same uneasiness still
continues

but not feverish Uneasiness in the head is much abated as
also in the Gums and throat which are never affected but
when the head is pained and that (↑then↑) not near so violently as the
head. She feels the prickling in her arms principally and
in a smaler degree in her facce and othr parts of the body
has not Got up since last tuesday fearing that it might
check perspiration of which she is seldom quite free
or perhaps be hurtfull to that Erysipelatous humor
which still occasions small inflammations in Different
parts of the body.
