Mr. Reeds Case


It is Now about two Years since he first began to Lose his
Appetite
& Spirits -- Was advised by the Faculty here Among other
things to take the Air & Exercise which was done but to No Effect -- about
13 Months ago took a Journey into Yorkshire in Expectation of the
Desired End, but Returned if any thing more worse both with Respect
to Appetite & Spirits -- During the Course of last Summer had a
Blister on the Back to Relieve the head which frequently Ach'd
much -- By the advice of a Friend afterwards he put himself under
the Care of a Dr Kelly for about 14 days underwent the Operation
of the Medical Baths, similar I Suppose to Dr Dominicettis, but
finding himself worse in all Respects left of attending --
Immediately After he had a Carbuncle on the Back, attended with
a great Discharge & for some time his Friends did not Expect
his Recovery; In August last that Disorder was got the Better
of, but Ever since the Appetite & Strength have gradually Decreased
In November We were down at Bath & Constantly Drank the Waters for
one month, but finding they did not agree & Weakness still increasing
Returned home in December -----


The chief Complaints Except Weakness & Loss of Appetite are
a Violent Pain on his Back part of the Head, as if bound Bound
with a Cord -- The Heart Burn in general & sometimes to

such a Degree as in the Night time to be obligd Continually to
lie on the Back -- Magnesia has Now & then been of a little
Service -- His Diet is Milk in the Morning -- Soup at Noon
& Sago in the Evening -- No Solids -- & with Difficulty can Eat them.
Rather a Loathing to Nourishment of all Sorts -- has lately Drank
a few Glasses of Port at & after Dinner, at other times good Old
Jamaica Rum well Diluted with Water ---


It is to be Observd that till within about those two Years, no
Man for his Years was More Hale Hearty Chearful & had a
better Appetite then Mr R---- His Age Now about 66 ----
