Dear Sir

I take this opportunity of giving you
many thanks for the trouble you took in advising
me about my son, tho' to my grief & great loss
his disease prov'd too strong for all the efforts
made to help him

The inclos'd case I hope you will consider
& favour me with your Opinion & good advice

The case of Mrs Betty Beatson

Aged upwards of 50, of a delicate constitution
and weak stomach in her best health.
About the middle of January last was seized
with violent pains in her stomach and belly
with frequent vomiting & costiveness, and what
she threw up very sowr.

When I saw her first I ordered injections & the
saline mixture with Liquid Laudanum; The in¬
jections
operated, but the mixture did not ease
the pains, nor stop the vomiting, till Opium pills
were given, which had a good effect & procured
sleep in the night - She had intervals of ease
sometimes for a week or ten days, but relapsed
frequently, she got the bark in different forms
Magnesia, & small quantities of the Elix. Salutis
to keep her belly easie - Her apetite has been
bad
during all this illness, but is now worse,
the vomiting when it attacks very severe, &
much troubled with belching wind & complains
sometimes of unusuall heat in her stomach
& belly
