Kirkcaldy 17 October 1777
Sir
Since I had the honour of writing you last Miss
Aytouns Symptoms continues much in the
same way till of late as at that time ---
The Anodyne & Astringent mixture were
both used in considerable quantities without
any sensible advantage.
On the 15 the Looseness & vomiting both went
off the dyspnœa & pain at Breast have been
much relieved & the Cough till this morn¬
ing had disappeared for some days -- She
now complains of coldness & chillyness all over
her Body tho' these two nights past she has
sweated most profusely -- She likewise complains
of a disagreeable sensation all over her Belly.
since the Looseness has stopt & as she has had

no stool for two days I have ordered an Injection
of warm water to be given in the Evening
Appetite tollerable - thirst gone. Sleeps much
better in the night - The Exercise in the Carriage
is continued daily & we use no Medicine whatever
