Dear Doctor!

you see my wifes, Case, which I made free to trouble
you with, along with the Bearer Mr Armstrong a near Neighbour
& a very good sort of man, but, who is reduced so low by his present
ailment, that Doctor Sharp and I have had much to do to per¬
suade him to undertake a journey as far as Edinburgh; or neither
would ↑we↑, but I proposed to accompany him, & once more have the
pleasure of seeing my good Benefactor, but, Circumstances not
permitting, & particularly my wife being so ill, she could not
think of my being from home for 8 or 10 days together, especially
as she is frequently delirious for two hours after she [goes to?]
bed.

As to my own case I am a deal better of my stomach[ic]
complaint; tho' I durst not take the vomit you ordered, because
the last vomits I took, before I had the pleasure of consulting you
brought on a giddiness, one seemed to me to lay the foundation
for it, & the other increased it, which I could never get rid of until
you removed it; besides I often have something like a rupture.

Therefore when you have a leizure minute I would fain
have a pr↑e↑scription from you for the stomach without a vomit,
& likewise for a flux or rather a Diarrhœa (as there was no blood)
as I have had two very severe attacks of it shortly; and at present
too I have a deafness attended with a continual singing in my ears;
these Sir are my complaints, but otherwise I am pretty well; &
heartily subscribe myself. Dear Sir!

your most obedient and
obliged Servant
Henry Elliott

Fowberry near Bambro,
June 9. 1777

P:S: My wife still thinks she is with child, but Mr Turnbull
says no.
