Reply for 'Mrs. _____ whose Case has been [communicated?] by Mr. Baillie of Dochfour', probably addressed to Mr. Baillie. Later correspondence confirms the patient as Mrs. Baillie. Cullen describes her ailment as 'very purely Epileptic'. He provides tonic prescriptions and gives directions for their use. He writes that 'If Dr. G. Skene is the physician I have the utmost confidence in his judgement', referring to Dr George Skene of Aberdeen; however, his connection with the case is uncertain as the Baillies' home is near Inverness.2 December 1787

[DOC ID:5590]
Reply for 'Mrs. _____ from Mr. Baillie', to Mr. Baillie, who has sent Cullen a journal recording his wife's fits and her response to the medicines previously prescribed. Cullen advises him on her continuing medication, and on eating chicken: 'if the Lady is manifestly the worse for the want of it, I would consent to her having it, but in a Country where fowel [i.e. wildfowl] is in plenty I cannot think the weather will require it'.27 December 1787

[DOC ID:5599]
Reply to an unnamed recipient, concerning a female patient, who has fits and is being treated with White Vitriol and Laudanum. Internal evidence indicates that it is a response to a journal paper (no longer extant) sent by Mr. Baillie of Dochfour, recording his wife's epileptic fits and response to medication.24 January 1788

[DOC ID:3319]
Letter from Mr. Baillie, jointly to Cullen and Alexander Monro, concerning his wife's epilepsy. She has had more severe fits, and they are now coming at times when she was previously free of them. He encloses another journal paper, and wishes to arrange a meeting with the doctors at Dunn's Hotel, presumably where he and his wife are staying in Edinburgh. The letter is prefaced by a note by Monro, forwarding it to Cullen and arranging their meeting with the Baillies at their hotel the following day.22 March 1788

[DOC ID:3320]
Journal paper by Mr. Baillie of Dochfour, recording his wife's epileptic fits, medicines and general health from 20 February, including their journey south to consult Cullen and Munro in Edinburgh. Enclosed in Doc ID 3319.22 March 1788
