From County Down. Trained as an apothecary in Dublin, then settled and practised in Sligo. Married twice, secondly to Alice Hawkes, a distant relative of Oliver Goldsmith. Grandfather of Robert Bentley Todd. Travelled to Edinburgh for an operation in 1789.
