Originally from Kirriemuir. Schoolmaster of Auchterhouse, then minister of Cortachy (1748-1772), then Banchory-Devenick from 1773 until his death. He m. twice: 1) 1742, Elizabeth Crawford, daughter of Professor of Divinity at Edinburgh; 2) 1754, Katherine Anderson, daughter of Prof. of Philosophy at Marischal College. Died 17th April 1785 between one and two o'clock in the morning. Was fond of the peppermint water French gave him just before he died. See Fasti Ecclesiæ Scoticanæ Vol. 6, p. 45. |
