For Mr Graham.
Give up business for some time. Go to the Country. Ride on
horseback avoiding heat of the day or coldness of Evening.
Diet of milk, grain & other vegetables. Abstain from the
colder things as Lettuce cucumber & from the more windy things
as Cabbage.
If milk bind his belly
prepare it with water gruel &c.
He may some times at dinner a bit of chicken lamb or
boiled mutton & if
disposed to be costive he should take a bason
of plain broth every day at dinner. No greens or roots in
the broth.
No Malt liquors, & very sparing of wine. He may take
a little spirits & water at dinner times but much diluted. His ordi¬
nary drink water, fresh buttermilk or new drawn whey.
Avoid Cold; especially in feet
& legs.
He should never be above two days without a Stool. The
Laxative oil
prescribed below should give one motion so that
according to its doing more or less he can regulate the dose.
When threatened with purging take one of the powders
in the morning, ordered below.
Take four ounces of the best Castor Oil, and an ounce of Tincture of Senna Compound. Mix. Label: half-a-table spoonful for a dose in the morning, shaking the phial before pouring it out.
Take ten grains of prepared crushed chalk of Magnesium Alba, five grains of powdered Rhubarb Electuary. Mix and make a powder. Make into six doses for taking when required. Label: Strengthening Powders.
