For the Revd Mr J. Munro. Edderton

Such ailments tedious. The Uva ursi & Ol. ricini
have been of use & must be continued but the Uva
ursi
would be better of an intermission now & then.
Lay it aside for two or three weeks & in place of it
take Lime water from a muchkin to a chopin every
day & continue so till the more frequent return of
fits oblige you to have recourse to the Uva ursi again.
In severe fits have recourse to Laudanum & as to
dose & times your own experience may now direct.
I suspect a stone in your bladder. Get sounded.

In the mean time much of your trouble arises from
your disposition to Piles. Procure some good Bal¬
sam of Copaiba
. Take a tea spoonful of sugar in
powder & put it into the a tea cup; drop upon it 30
drops of the Balsam; mix it with Sugar then fill
up the Cup with water & drink it off. Take this
every night increasing by 10 drops every night till
you come to take 60 for a dose & at this dose you may
continue for a week. If this give you relief from the
Piles & uneasines about the Anus you may after some
days ↑intermission↑ take the Balsam in the same doses again for seven
or eight days. This medicine sometimes irritates the
neck of the bladder & in this case you must lay it aside
but observe that you do not mistake your usual fit for
the effects of the Balsam. I suspect some such mis¬
take with regard to the Honey which I advise you to
try again.
