Professor Watson consulted you
some time ago for his Daughter, who then labour¬
ed under a violent opthalmia, it has lift a
speck upon the cornea which he is anxious
to have removed, it does not interupt the rays
of light, but it is a deformity which he fears
may increase. I thought of makeing a trial of
Sir Hans Sloanes ointment but I have no
experience of it. Mr. Watson therefore begged
me to write you concerning it for your
best advice: She now enjoys perfect health.
I am still thinking seriously of what I formerly
write you about my wishes to be one of your
College. 1 My Friend Doctor Rutherford advised
me some time ago to Endeavour to have it done
and informed me I had a claim. Your friendship
in this affair wou'd be a very great favour

Notes:
1: Letter untraced. Almost certainly refers to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh of which Cullen was the current President (served 1773-1775).
