For Lord Kames' Servant


Let ↑him↑ take twice a day that is in the mornings
fasting & about half an hour before dinner take
one (↑the bigness of a Nutmeg (↑Filberd↑)↑) of the Stomachic Powders in a glass of water (↑Stomachic Electuary↑)
washing it down with a little water --
When the Electuary is finished it need not be renewed again

unless the return
of his pains re¬
quire it[End of margin text]

Once or twice a week or just as often as occas[ion?]
requires let him take a dose of the Laxative Pil[ls?]
at bedtime.


Let his diet be chiefly Milk & Grain avoiding
all kind of Roots greens or Fruit. Once a
day particularly at breakfast he may take Ale
but his ordinary drink should be water --


He should take care to avoid Cold & particularly
to keep his feet always dry & warm. --

Take one ounce of powdered root of Calamus, a drachm of prepared powdered steel, half an ounce of Conserve of Roses, and a sufficient quantity of Common Syrup as to make an Electuary. Label: The Stomachic Electuary.

Take a drachm each of Hepatic Aloes, the best Scammony, and Spanish Soap, and a sufficient quantity of Common Syrup as to make a mass to be divided into five individual pills. Label: Laxative Pills One two or three for a dose or so many as give him one Stool to be taken at Bedtime
