Mrs. Bannatyne
Dear Sir

I have considered Mrs Bannatynes case
and am very willing to advise in it as well as I can.

Let him continue to give the bark and for eight days imme¬
diately before the next menstruation let her take it to the quantity
of two drams every day. Let alone the Elixir of Vitriol along
with the bark and in place of it let her use the following to be
continued during the time of menstruation.

Take three ounces of Rose water and half an ounce each of Syrup of Dried rose and Spiritus vitrioli tenuis. Mix. Let her take a Teaspoonful of this in an ordinary wine glassful of cold water four times a day.

For the eight days before menstruation, let her stir very
little and for the most part lie upon her bed.

Cold bathing may be very easily employed. Let her set
a stool in a washing tub and upon this let her sit down naked
and have some cold water poured upon her shoulders and by
a wet towel carried all over her body. At first the water
employed may be tempered by taking one part of boiling water
to four parts of cold from a spring or well but afterwards every
day a part of the boiling may be withdrawn. As this ope¬
ration is to be done within doors or if you will in a fireroom
there will be no hazard from the season.

When the menstruation comes on let laudanum be em¬
ployed very freely as the pains may require

Yours &c
Wm Cullen
