Dr Alves Concerning Sutherland of Clyne
Dear Sir

I have now again considered your letter
and am perswaded that your patient has a stone in his bladder
If that was properly ascertained by the Catheter I should say that
his most certain relief would be obtained by the extraction of the
stone
but in the meantime he may probably get relief by the use
of soap and lime water, taking the soap to half an ounce and
the lime water to a chopin every. After using these for a month
or six weeks if his relief is not compleat he may take the Bear Berry for as long to the quantity of two or three drams every day.
In either case a regular belly is necessary and when for that purĀ¬
pose a medicine is necessary he cannot employ a more proper
than the Castor Oil. I wish you heartily success and am
with great regard

Dear Sir
your most obedient servant
William Cullen
