Drs. Cullen and Monro are
of opinion that the venereal virus
is not yet entirely eradicated
and
therefore that some more Mercury
may still be necessary
but it must
be conducted gently and rather by {illeg}
length of time than by any strong
operation. It should be delayed
till warm weather set in so that
it may be managed with less confine¬
ment. In the mean time let
him drink daily of the decoction of
the Mezereon
which may perhaps

supersede the Mercury.

Let care be taken that the Mezereon
be in good condition. It is the bark
only of the root that is usefull
and
the woody part so far as it can be se¬
parated is to be entirely thrown away
and care is to be taken that the
bark
is sufficiently that is, very
acrid
. An ounce of Sarsa and two
drams of the Mezereon
are to be
boiled in a pint of water into a cho¬
pin and this chopin is to drank in
the course of 24 hours. If it feels
hot on
the Stomach it may be begun by a
dram of the Mezereon
to the bottle of Decoction
