Mrs. Reid
I should be very happy to give Mrs. Reid
relief, but it is very difficult to determine
what is best to be done, especially if medi¬
cines are to be employed. They are all uncer¬
tain and some of them dangerous. I am
extremely averse to prescribe any, if I
can by any means persuade Mrs. Reid
to submit to what I judge to be a surer
and much safer remedy. Pray tell her
that ↑the↑ medicines upon which we can any
ways depend, are both uncertain in ma¬
king a Cure, and are at the same time
of a very dangerous use, and upon considering
these things, she may be persuaded to
submit to the operation. Please try her
upon the subject in these views, and
let me have your report as soon as you please
I have been out of town every day since I received
and can tell you that if medicines
[Page 2]
are to be employed I believe the delay to be
of little consequence.
