For Mrs. Watt
I have sent her a medicine marked Anodyne
mixture of which she is to take two spoonfuls for a
dose once, twice or thrice a day according to the
urgency of the purging and pains of her bowels, and
I hope it will relieve both, but she should take it
no oftener than is necessary as the seldomer
she takes it, it will the longer continue to have
good effects. With this medicine she must observe
the direction I gave with the last, which was, that
if the mixture should at any time seem to bind her
too much she should take a dose of flour of Sulphur
sufficient to open her a little.
This is the only remedy I can advise at
present and heartily pray it may be successful
and shall always be ready to contribute to her
relief as far as it is in my power.
