For Her Grace
The Dutchess of Gordon
Take two drachms of gum Guajacum, half an ounce of very pure [Arena loto?]. Mix together into a powder, to which add eight ounces of twice-distilled rum. Leave to set for three days, after which shake well and to the liquid, strained through paper, add two drachms of lump sugar. Label Stomachic Tincture, two teaspoonfuls to be taken for a dose in a tablespoonful of water; and such a dose may be taken twice a day, an hour before dinner & supper and that for two or three times every week. After each dose the mouth & throat may be rinsed with a little Capillaire & water

Digere triduum subinde agitans et
colatura per chartam adde
Sacchar. caud. ↑trit.↑ Ʒij
