Normalized Text
For Mr Murison of Naughton
His ailment depends entirely on a weakness of his bowels
attended with & perhaps owing to a rupture of the haemor¬
rhoidal vessels occasioning a frequent discharge of blood.
For this I would advise first the Tinctura Martis
according to our last Dispensatory; 20 drops for a dose in
[Page 2]
an ordinary wine glass full of water twice in the forenoon
& once towards evening. I dont expect this will occasion
costiveness but if it should, this must be obviated by
Flores sulphuris.
Diet of a middle kind, but no wine or malt liquors.
He may take a little weak Toddy. At supper he
should take milk meats. Abstain from Tea or coffee
& take Cocoa, chocolate or gruel & milk &c -
Fresh air & gentle exercise: but walking will do
harm especially in case of disposition If to bleeding &
upon such occasions he should even lie much horizontal.
Riding smoothly will do best for him, but if this even
should occasion any discharge of blood, he must take to a
carriage.
