Normalized Text
For John Gray of Balnagarno Esqr.
His Complaint obstinate, but as it seems connected
with Gout. We hope it may I in time admit of a Cure
The remedies already employed very judicious &
tho they have not done much service we think they should
be continued - particularly the Electricity - the Shocks should
be moderate and gentle & passed chiefly thrra thorough
the bottom of the Back & Haunches -- The should shocks
should be pretty numerous at one time & may be repeated
every other day -
The rubbing should also be continued especially in
the mornings with warm flannels - long continued &
gentle - In the Evenings also; but for a shorter time
the rubbing should be from the toes up to a little above
the knee -
Gentle Exercise proper - very moderate walking --
In Summer riding, frequently if it gives no numbness nor
uneasiness to his feet or legs -- at present he must only
go out in a single horse Chaise well covered about the feet,
&c.
Carefully avoid cold - flannel next his Skin
warm under Stockings night & day &c ---
His Diet seems very well ordered at present - He
may take a little animal food a glass or two of wine
every day at Dinner; but be sparing of fish & more so
of cold Vegetables, as fresh fruit, Cuccumber Lettuce &c
For Medicines the following.
Take two ounces of Tincture of Mars as prescribed in the Pharmacopœia Edinburgensis and one ounce of Aromatic Tincture. Mix and label as Strengthening Tincture. A teaspoon in a gill of water twice a day for a fortnight.
Take half an ounce of Peruvian Bark Powder and a sufficient amount of water in order to soften let there it be a semiliquid mass &c. Let it rest and add Orange Peel and cardona mineral Seed, then Tincture C. [D?]
