For Mr S. Gordon
To far well as to have nothing now to do but to confirm reco¬
¬very & prevent ↑return of↑ disease.
At dinner every day, a bit of any plain meat, avoiding only
white meat be heavy on his stomach, & always be moderate. but fill
up with &.
No meat at supper but milk & grain
At breakfast bread & milk or Cocoa tea. no Indian tea of Coffee.
at least, ↑let it be↑ weak & with bread & butter. the last very moderately.
Drink. plain water. but sometimes a little Port or Sherry to it.
at dinner 2 or 3 glasses of wine, as Claret, for the present. but hereafter
it will be safer to take a little of the strong wines as Port or
Madera with water.
Keep belly regular Castor oil. find by trial the dose. but never
more than to keep regular. below a receipt for preparing some
Phials of the Castor oil ---
Fresh air & gentle exercise. At first in a carriage & afterwards when
he is stronger, on horseback & take exercise daily till November. Next.
Just now before he return to his own house, a journey of a
week or two. By the time he get home I expect he will
need no other remedy but air & exercise. If however pains
about head & neck remain, pour cold water upon his head &
neck held over a bason, every morning. His appetite good &
strength increasing no occasion for Bark. But if the contrary, he
must for a fortnight together take every day 3 doses of bark a teaspoonful
heaped at each. For his heat {illeg} Urine, take the Powder and below

Take four ounces of Castor Oil [recently??] half an ounce of Jamaican Spirit Sugar. Mix and make in this way [four saucers??]. Label Castor Oil a tablespoon for a dose. Take one drachm of powdered gum arabic --- five grains of sodium carbonate. Mix and make into a powder & make in this way dose No XXIV. [One?] Cooling Powder one in a gill of water thrice a day.
