For Miss Junr. Dumfries


Catarrhal not Phthisical.


Fresh air & exercise, horseback or carriage in summer and harvest
as conveniences will allow. Continue it as far as weather allow,
till December, if not keep at home, neither visiting her next door
neighbours, nor going to Church.


Guard against cold by a flannel shirt next skin & warmly
cloathed, no change on a count of season from thicker to thinner.
Diet, milk & grain, drink water & water liquor no fermented or spirit.
Upon the catarrh's coming on in winter, take frequent gentle vomits.
Gum Ammoniacum pills might be frequently repeated pro re nata. 1 & more effi¬
cacious if alternated with Pills of Asa fœtida. Continue the Perpe¬
tual issue
of her side & in either that or other shapes, for some

years to come perhaps for life.


According to urgency of symptoms during winter, a little blood
might be drawn & the Demulcent Pectorals frequently employed. & I
can imagine a case in which Anodyne might be useful & safe.
