Dr Tough about Mr Browne
May be the better of drinking sea water but must do it for a
month or 6 weeks together, & this not compatible with his business
& if attended with the circumstances of riding backward & forwards, the benefit
might be lost. May employ it better at Kilmarnock that at the
sea shore, & the substitute, below, better than the sea water itself.
Altho in a strong schrophulous taint I have been disappointed
in Mercurials yet in his case there is a tempation to try them &
the present ↑fine↑ season should not be lost. I therefore still advise the
alternative course of Solution & Decoction, & I shall send the
Mezereon. If after it he still complain in the beginnin↑g↑
of September, put him on a course of the Solution below.
Two spoonfuls more or less to be mixed with a mutchkin of
spring water, this at 3 draughts (like mineral waters) every
morning before breakfast for a month or 6 weeks together. It
should give one stool every day but not purge, & if it
go wrong in either, increase or diminish the dose.
Regimen, same as in drinking Sea water.
Take one ounce of Soluble Tartar, two ounces of Glauber's Salts, and half an ounce each of Spanish Sea-salt and polychrest, twelve ounces of Spring water and four ounces of simple cinnamon syrup. Dissolve and strain. Label: Aperient Solution.
