For Mr Metford

Neither Paralytic nor Gouty. But Chronic Rheumatism which often
arises from sprains & leaves the part in a cold & weak for a
long time after. Cure often difficult.

Apply blister to the outside of the thigh a little below the Tro¬
chanter
. When it is healed, go to Bath & pump the limb
from the the haunch downwards for eight or ten days together,
& after pumping let the limb be kept warm by flannel ap¬
plied every where next the skin. He should frequently
but always moderately & a little only at one time & every
night at bed time, his limb especially on the outside should be
gently rubbed with a flesh brush or a piece of flannel.

After 8 or 10 days, he may return home, & by keeping the
limb warm & continuing the use of the flesh brush, I hope he
will get free from his complaint. But If I be mistaken
I am persuaded a moderate application of Electricity
every day for a month together will give him a perfect
cure
