For Mr Merry about Mrs ---------------

Understand the case perfectly. Having continued long & pro¬
ceeded far, must be difficult of cure, & at any rate cannot
be suddenly, but will require pains &cc. Your appre¬
hension of ulcer in the vagina or uterus, not without foundation
but I have known the appearance of this case all, will
without ulceration, it is however timendum & should engage
the lady in all the measures that can be proposed.

Yours proposed, proper & judicious. &cc. To that I
shall only make some more particular remarks.

Diet. Properly cautioned against high seasoning &c. but
I go farther & advise great moderation in quantity & quality of
animal food. Your preparation of Cornu cervi & isinglass
particularly proper.

With regard to exercise your directions well judged &c. I
forbid all bodily exercise & even Walking [nisi?] the most
gentle & short. Going in a carriage useful, but I advise
a journey moderate per day but steady for some weeks espe¬
cially in such a season as this. In this case, ↑viz. if the travel↑ give up
cold bathing for the time but at other times, one of the
most promising remedies. Upon the journey, use the
Bidet every morning or with cold water washing the
Inter fœminea, & this better than any warm fomentation
at least on the Journey.

Tho I do not conclude any ulceration, yet your drops
very proper & absolutely safe. They are sometimes disa¬
greable to the stomach & in that case give them up. In
case you give them up, supply them by the prescription
ordered below, from which I have found great benefit.

[Page 2]

I fear your injections will be refused, & they may
be yet a little delayed but they may certainly be use¬
ful. ------ I have avoided repeating what
you had already said very properly &cc.

For Mrs ----------------

Take half an ounce of pulverised Peruvian Bark, ------------ two drachms of red aluminium, one ounce of rose Conserve and sufficient Syrup of dry rose petals required to make into an Electuary Label: Strengthening Electary The bigness of a horse bean every morning or forenoon, increasing the dose as the Stomach bears.
