Dear Sir
Since my last to You Respecting Mr. Handasyde's
Health, a very Material Change has Ensued, with which he begs
I will take the Opportunity of his Father's going to Edinburgh to Acquaint
You, The Purging of which I inform'd You in my last has Continued
for some Time Violent, but is now much abated. This Evacuation
which I must Consider as an Effort of Nature to free herself from
that Load of Water, or the Anasarca, has answer'd Every Effect
which Could possibly be Wishd for in that Way, the Swelling is
Allmost totally gone, but it has left him much more Weak
than before, his Pulse I think more Feverish and his Appetite
less. He is much Emaciated, Spits a good deal, and Altho the
Abatement of the Anasarcous Tumour has taken place. I see
no Reason to Alter my Opinion with Respect to his Recovery
He has left off the Use of Medicine totally this Fortnight, Except
the Opiate, and Endeavor'd at a more Free & generous Diet, but
he grows weaker Every Hour, If You would Wish any thing in the
Regimen to be Attended to, it may give him some Satisfation
[Page 2]
and make him more Easy in his Mind in the Interim
I Remain With all Respect
Your Obliged Humble Servant
