Sir

I was lately desired to visit Miss
Furie of this place, who I find was a Pa¬
tient of yours about four years ago &
her friends are anxious to have your opi¬
nion of her present indisposition. She is
25 years of age, of a very delicate habit
& has been subject to a Cough in winter
for several years. About five weeks ago
she got cold & was careless about herself
till she was seized with a pain in her breast
when she was very properly bled by her Surgeon
& a Blister was applyd to the Sternum with
some advantage. The Catamenia appeared
at the regular period but stopped suddenly
& in a fit of coughing she spit blood
without much previous pain in her breast
& continued to do so for several days but
not in great quantity. In the evenings she
is subject to hot fitts without any shiver¬
ings
nor does she sweat much, has a constant
quick pulse attended with a frequent cough
by which she expectorates a little mucous, her
appetite is bad & she wastes daily in her flesh.
She has for some years been troubled with the
Fluor Albus but since the commencement of

the complaints in her Lungs she has had
very little of it. She has been occasionally
bled to five or six ounces with great relief,
her blood is extremely sizy. She takes an
Anodyne with forty drops of Vin: Antimon
every night, Elixr. Vitriol twice a day in
Bristol water & an Electuary with Conserv
Rosar
& Nitre, the Decoct Nitros disagrees
with her. She lives upon Asses Milk, vege¬
tables & bread puddings with fruit, drinks
Bristol water, Imperial or [Pippen?] Tea,
Milk disagrees, so does Emuls: Arabic &
butter Milk. To obviate Costiveness she takes
Manna dissolved in Cream of Tartar whey
two or three times a week & when the Cough
is troublesome Rob: Sambuci or black currant
Jelly gives relief. Since the season turned
cold she has worn a flannel Jacket next
her Skin. I am happy in having an oppor¬
tunity of paying my Respects to a Gentle
man of your distinguished abilities &
am Sir

your most Obedient Servant
