Mr Hopkirk for several Months past
has been complaining occasionally
of sickness & pain in his right side.
But for the three last, the sickness
has become constant, attended with
oppression & a sense of weight at his
stomach. The pain in his right side
has likewise been more violent &
frequent, it is seated in the Hypochon¬
drium
& he describes it as coming
forward to the pit of his stomach.
His appetite has been gradually
impaired & is now almost entirely
gone
, the sight of food being attended
with lothing. Thro the Day he is
chilly but at night after being about
an hour in bed he becomes hot &
restless, which continues till morning

[Page 2]

Ever since the encrease of the sickness
& heat at night, his sleep has been
very bad
. During the night his calls
to make water are observed to be
frequent, and what he makes, is
larger quantity than usual.
His urine at first was high coloured,
but is now rather limpid, as other¬
wise. He has been twice attacked
with the Gout in his feet a number
of years ago; & since that he has
from time to time felt slight pains
in his heel & toe, but none since
the encrease of his other complaints
At first the sickness was attended
with some degree of Diarrhoea but
that is now pretty much gone off.
He has used occasionally a saline
Purgative
which at first relieved the
oppression & weight in his bowels

[Page 3]

The Bark has been exhibited in small
doses & about two drachms of Elixir Stomach:
dayly. At the time when the want
of sleep
was most uneasy a small
opiate has been given.
Along with these gentle exercise
in a carriage & on foot has been
regularly taken.
