Dear Doctor
I am extremely sorry to inform you that
your patient Mr Brown whom you you was so obliging
as to recommend to my care has been suddenly carried
off by an apoplectic stroke. I was called to him
last wednesday evening, & finding him rather
heated by his Journey, recommended some preparatory
evacuation, before he begun drinking the waters.
In consequence of this he secured to be relieved, & was
the day before yesterday so chearful & lively, that
I was in hopes he might begin drinking, pumping
etc. the very next day. but that very night he
was seized, so that when the servant (↑his Friends↑) came in
to him yesterday morning, they found him in an
insensible comatose state. I was then sent for,
& finding him in that condition thought proper
to call in farther advice. on this a Blister was
applied to the Head, Cataplasms to the Feet, &
a stimulating Clyster administered. but all to
no purpose. the Paralysis in short had termin¬
ated in a genuine Apoplexy. I am Dear Sir
with sincere esteem & regard your obliged humble
Servant
