Sir

Mrs McKessocks friends who had
occasion lately to consult you in relation to her case
have literally followed your directions as far as it
was in their power, & am happy to inform you
that the good effects of them are beginning to appear
in so much that her appetite is a little restored, she
sleeps well & regularly, is beginning to look better
& her mind is more easy (tho far from being well)
– as you did not mention in your directions whether
you meant she should continue for some time to
take of the solution & the pills they would take
it kind if you would direct them in this particular
& how long it may be safe & proper to take of them ––
–– as the weather for sometime past has been rather
unfavourable for bathing in the open air, they would
be also glad to know if you would approve of bathing
in the house & how long it may be continued with
safety, as they live hard by the sea they can easily
procure the salt water as often as they chuse

[Page 2]

The shaving of her head was the only part of your advice that was
most disagreeable to her, & on account of her great aversion to it they have
only been able to do it once, but they are in hopes that as she begins
to be more rational she will become more adviseable – she is always
best & easiest in the morning & for that reason eats her breakfast
pretty well, but takes nothing or next to nothing 'till that that time next
day. I am respectfully

Sir
your most obedient & very humble servant
