Case
Captain Gordon of Achanachie - Aged 75 years naturally athletic
healthy began for the first time to complain of some symptoms
of Gravel in September last year - but imagined his distress pre¬
ceeded from the remains of a Venereal Disorder contracted
many years ago at Naples, where he continued to serve in the
army till the year 1768 that he returned to his Native
Country. -- The Symptoms of Gravel increased during the
Winter, He made Urine more frequently - in small quantity
with pain in the Glans Penis -- Since the beginning
of last spring he observed some brownish sand in the Sediments
of his Urine -- & with the last drops of Urine he now & then passes
a little blood - especially the day after he voids the Sand &
which generally happens once a week - He was twice
alarmed with the quantity of Blood evacuated amounting
to two gills at each time - but attended with very little pain,
His Urine often deposits a whitish slimy mucus when
it stands a little - at other times remains clearer than that of
a healthy person in either Case he is sensible of no alteration
in the pain which indeed he feels only in the Glans Penis -
never in the region of the Kidneys - [ureters?] or Bladder & he
has no Tenesmus -- On the days in which he passes Sand
his Urine often comes away so hastily that it can scarcely
be retained till he reach the next room -- & he is always
now obliged to make water four times at least in the night,
whereas formerly he used to retain his Urine from going to
bed till he arose in the Morning. -- Since the end of April
[Page 2]
Case
he has persisted with some advantage in drinking at the rate of
a Mutchin of Lime water with milk or whey every day - & has like¬
wise taken some Aloetic Pills occasionally -- His Stomach does not
readily allow of a larger quantity of Lime water --
His general State of Health is otherwise as good as can
be expected at his period of Life - & he has been extremely
temperate since his Complaints began. ---
He wishes to have the advice of Doctor Cullen &
Doctor Monro on the above Case. ----
