Sir

I wished & indeed I fully intended to have drawn
out the enclosed extracts on thursday - but was prevented
by a sudden call to Leith - I am sorry also that Mr
Buchanan was not in the way when your Card of
appointment came - as I know full well how very pre¬
cious every moment of your time is.

Transcribing from my own papers is a very tedious
employ to me - and I must crave your indulgence as to
the manner - also to the prolixity - attributing it to the
effusion of my friendship & esteem for the Party concerned.

The very small {illeg} acknowledgement I
left with you - was on the joint account of Mr Campbell
and my friend Mr Buchanan - who will be happy to
receive your Commands; and we chearfully await
your leisure –

I am Sir
Your very humble servant
J. O. Merry.
