[Start of margin text]Dear Sir/[End of margin text] You might have expected a more early
account of your Patient Colonel Grey
if any thing had happen'd worth
communicating, there has been no
considerable alteration Since you were
at Fallodon, he continues much in the
Same State, & denies that he has received the
least benefit from any Medicine what¬
ever, Since the beginning of his disorder,
& I must honestly confess, I cannot con¬
tradict him, he took the vomit of {illeg} 1 as
order'd which handled him So roughly
that he declares he will not take another,
& notwithstanding that there was a
dgood deal of tough Phlegm brought off &
his Stomach Sec{illeg}'d to be thoroughly [Searched?],
he found no relief, his Complaints Seem
to be of that kind that nothing but time
& a warmer Season will remove, he con¬
tinues the Bark & Bitters, but the Columbo
root & Magnes.. tho' administerd very cautiously
[Page 2]
in small doses disagreed with him excee¬
dingly & ↑he↑ declares against the further use
of them, as he is better reconciled to the
Bark in the form proscribed when you were
here, we propose to go on with it a little
longer. I am of opinion that London in
the Winter or Some warmer climate wou'd
be a much properer Situation for him
than Fallodon, where from the nature of
the Soil & many other concurring circum¬
Stances there must be a constant humidity
in the Air. If any thing occurs to you that
might be of Service to him, we will make
a fair trial of it if we can obtain his con¬
sent, which I much question. The family
desires to be remember'd to you, & believe
me, Dear Sir, to be with the greatest respect
Compliments to your Son
