Letter from Richard Sherwood of Staindrop to Rev. Mr. Sanderson in Morpeth, concerning the case of Sanderson's brother. He discusses his diabetes, 'which I am apt to think has been brought on by the abuse of Spirituous Liquors, as well as excessive ale drinking', and the treatment he is giving. Letter from Charles Keith, on the case of Mr Sanderson, who has diabetes. Covering letter by Keith enclosing a letter from Richard Sherwood of Staindrop. This letter had been addressed to Rev Mr Sanderson, Morpeth, who was the patient's brother, and who had passed the letter on to Keith. Previously the patient had objected to his case being put to a physician 'eminent in his Profession' but now allowed it. Keith discusses the use of opium in diabetes cases, and sends greetings to 'Dr Henry' (Cullen's son). The enclosure mentioned is Document 3457, linked in this case.2 February 1789

Reply to Dr Keith concerning Mr Sanderson's case. He thanks him for forwarding it from Richard Sherwood, and agrees with Sherwood's handling of it. He suggests some medicines and advocates the encouragement of perspiration with exercise: 'it is only by much exercise on horseback especially, or in a Carriage that I have known Diabetes cured'. He asks after Dr Keith's health and mentions that his own is recovered.4 February 1789
