Notes
James Farquharson of Balmoral, Jacobite sympathiser was a Colonel of a regiment that fought at the Battle of Falkirk and Culloden in 1745. He was the last of the Farquharson's of Balmoral. He is known today for the building of the village of Ballater for visitors to the mineral waters at Pannanich Wells. The surgeon Thomas John Stuart requested the replies to his letters to be left in the care of James Farquharson. For further information on James Farquharson see Farquharson Genealogies from the Brouchdearg MS. of 1733 by A. M. Mackintosh; Clan Farquharson: A History by Geoffrey Farquharson; and Bare-Arsed Banditti: The Men of the '45 by Maggie Craig (Random House, 2011; p267). |
