Verso carries two, presumably unrelated, additions in other hands; a small diagrammatic drawing and a mathematical calculation.

I have observed that I had my health better the first 2 or 4 years that I Lived
in a toun then afterwards –––––
I have wroght Littell hard Laborious work this six years past –––––
I had ever an inclination to Spend my spear time in reading books and finds
and finds I am more so as I advance in Life –––––
Ever since I was young I have inclined much to be Costife & finds that milk
increases it –––––––
This two years past I have been more indifferent about Eating then formerly but
reather inclined to drink more –––––
I am not fond of gouing offen into Company and the more I stay at home in
a Sediantery way the more averss I grow to go out ––––––
This 3 or 4 Summers past I found a Sheacking in my hand when I wrot but it was
only when the weather was pretty warm but from Spring Last till about two
months ago I had the Sheacking more severely not only throw my hands but
throw my wholl body ––––––
This Scurvie I understand is in the Blood throu our famly –––––
If I should teak a Long rayd this Summer ––––
[For?] Severall weeks (& even in pairt till now) after I took that dead Coldness in
my Legs & thighs I had offen twetchen Shouting pains throw my body & they
offen went of at my tos & finger ends & some times when I was half a¬
sleep at night I have Started of a Sudent as if I had receved a Shock of
Electresite
––––––
I still continue to have a Coch & Speeting ––––
I have put my afears in some forwardness on purpose to Remove from Glasgow
& go and Live at Ayr the air is thinner & purer ther then at Glasgow but
as I have been boath weall & ill at both pleases I cannot rightly say which
of the pleases is fittest for my Constitution ––––––
Doctor Hill advised me to yeus that Bathin Machen that I was told was
Contraved by you will it be proper for me to Continew to yeus it ––––––
I have had a Eacheness in my Legs this 4 or 5 Springs past but they never befor
this Last Spring formed into runnings ––––––
I had yeused about one penny worth of tobacco per week in Chowing for
7 or 8 years & give it over at once Last winter Doctor Hill bad me acustome
myself to it agen –––––
Whither Goat Whey would be of any Serves to me –––––
What I should yeus for ordinery for meat & drink –––––
If you think it would be proper for me to acustome my Self to Laboure
in the Machanick way as I yeused formerly ––––
Of the heat swelling of my Legs –––––––
After the first rayd I took 4 or 5 Springs past I took a turn of the
