Sir

I am favoured with yours and am very
willing to advise you as well as I can but your
information is by no means so clear as to enable
me to advise you properly. From the account
you have given me I cannot perceive that there
has been any Venereal Infection in the Case.
The pains you speak of have not the appearance
of the Venereal and though they were more
like them, it is very unusual for such pains
to appear soon after the time of supposed
infection. Before Advising you therefore I
must beg your Answer to the following
queries.

Soon after your communication with a

[Page 2]

supposed infected person did any Ailment appear
about your yard? Did you feel any heat of
urine had you any running or did ever any
Eruption or Shanchre appear?

If any of these Symptoms appeared let
me know ↑the nature of them↑ as well as you can and how long
they continued.

To what quantity did you apply the
Mercurial Ointment, how long did you
continue to apply it and did you ever feel
any effect of it in your mouth.

When you Answer these queries you may
depend on my punctuality in Advising you as
well as I can and of my Admitting willingly of any
further correspondence the Case may require.

The concern you express for your

[Page 3]

folly is more than is common {illeg} these days
and your carrying your desire of Secrecy so far
as you have done has I think been unlucky
but you may depend upon my absolute Secrecy
in the Affair and though the state of my
business Obliges me to employ an Emanuensis
you need not apprehend anything from that
as he has neither Seen your letter nor
knows to whom I am to address
my Answer. I am

Sir
Your obedient servant
