[Page 1]
Mr Knot Concerning Mrs Knot
Sir

Costiveness may be very hurtfull to Ms Knot & should always
be immediately relieved. I thought that Mrs K. had carried a laxative
medicine
along with her else I would have provided one. There is a pill
called Andersons which is to be had in almost every town in Scotland & I
suppose at Inverary. If to be had there let Mrs K. take a single Pill
at bedtime which will commonly answer & of one does not two certainly will

If it should happen that Andersons pills are not to be had there
I have given a prescription on the other page which I believe may be got
properly enough prepared at Inverary & is to be used in the manner
as I have said above. Whenever a second day has passed without a
stool one or two of these pills are to be taken at bedtime. If Mrs
K. has been in use to take butter without prejudice I have no ob¬
jection to it at present only it should always be taken moderately

To Miss Fords question I say she must by no means be starved
& therefore when she can get nothing else she may take butter &
eggs but so long as she can get bread & milk & other milk meats
I would have her let alone the Eggs & more particularly the Cheese.
A little butter is the more allowable of the three.
