For Miss Browne at Coultermains


Water Cress & Scurvy grass equal parts - if Scurvy Grass not
to be had - make it up with more Water Cress - To be gathered
early in the morning, when brought in, to be well bruised
in a marble or wooden Mortar, then put into a strong
linnen bag to have their juice squeezed out. Lemon
squeezers will do, but larger better, & the size of your
bag to be adjusted to them. - When you have got as
much juice as will serve for three or four days put it
into a stone Decanter with half its quantity of bitter Orange
juice
, squeezed at the same time & to a chopin of these
juices put a table spoonfull of strong rum or French brandy
Set the Decanter in a Cellar or very cool place & let
it stand for 12 hours, then decant off the clear & strain
it directly thro a flannel bag. - To be kept in half
Muchkin Phials well corked & set by immediately in
a Cellar or cool place - One of these phials to be taken
in the day.- One half an hour or & more before
breakfast, the other as long before supper - If this
be too much for your stomach divide the Phial into
four parts - one part an hour before breakfast - the
2d in the forenoon - 3d at six P. M. & the 4th at bedtime
or if even this be two much you must accomodate the
quantity to your stomach, but the more you take the better
