To Mr Murray Surgeon at Kirkcaldy - concerning Miss Aytoun
of Inch Darney.

In the mean time I think you have done right in taking some blood
and her being threatened with some bleeding from the nose makes me think
it necessary to take some more from the arm, and I would not be pre¬
vented by the looseness unless this is very excessive. If this does encrease
as you apprehend, you can hardly depend on any thing but anodynes and
at the same time these will hardly be safe without bleeding. In any
shape of the looseness you may give a spoonful or two of the potio
cretacea
several times a day. You have certainly done right in blistering,
but the keeping the part open will be of little service, and if the
pain and dyspnœa increase or continue troublesome a blister on the
back will be necessary. I am seldom interrupted by looseness from
giving vegetable acids, which are otherwise so useful in disorders of the
breast. --
