[Page 1]
For Mrs Dobbie ----

As she has past the winter without return of complaints
I hope she is out of danger from them, but precautions are
necessary.

Her proposed expedition to the Highlands will be of
service, providing she do not fatigue herself or get cold.
Short and slow journies & always very moderate. Keep
her feet warm in the carriage & avoid an open side
window. Avoid cold & moisture at the Inns. In wet or
cold weather better rest till it be ower, than travel.
As some part of the journey will be on water, & sometimes
in an open boat, she must be always well covered and
as short upon the water as possible.

Diet as hitherto, but upon the journey may take a
little more animal food, than when at rest & without exercise.
In isle of Mull it should be chiefly milk & grain.
Fresh air & gentle exercise as often as she can,
especially on horseback. Must be cautious & moderate
in walking, avoiding being heated or fatigued by it & therefore
never walking uphill. These cautions are especially ne¬
cesary when she has any heat or uneasiness in her breast or
any degree of Cough. If these be in any great degree &
especially if at the same time any tinge of blood appear
in her spitting
, take a little blood from her arm.
In slighter attacks of then the acid mixture she has
used will be enough & in cases when the bleeding is necessary
the acid mixture should then especially be much used.

When the symptoms of her breast trouble her, her belly
should be kept open –– therefore in case of costiveness use
the prescription ordered on the last page for Miss B.
Gordon. See p. 37.
